The cure for perfectionism

Written by Alex Poeter

Perfectionism can sabotage us in serious ways and prevent us from living into our full potential. Often stemming from a fear of being judged or rejected, perfectionism (the need for flawlessness) can prevent us from putting ourselves and our contributions out into the world. As a result, we never get to fully share our talents, skills and unique gifts to create the greatest possible impact on the world. I know, because I consider myself a recovering perfectionist!

Here is a powerful way to reframe and redefine perfectionism, which I heard from author and coach Brendon Burchard: The desire to get something perfect before we can release it and share it with others (or the public), is actually the opposite of perfectionism. And here is why.

Perfectionism can only be achieved by continuously improving and iterating our services and products with the input and feedback from those we're serving. Whatever services or products we create for others can only become more and more perfect if we share it with those we want to serve, so that they can guide us to keep improving what we have to offer.

If we’re committed to serving others through a bigger vision for impact, we need to allow those we serve to decide what's good for them and what serves them best. It's a process of co-creation and ongoing iteration.

What are you willing to share today with those you serve so that they can help you to keep perfecting what you have to offer?
